VIETNAM. Quang Tri province. Hai Lang district. The central coastal province of Quang Tri is one of the most vulnerable to flooding in the whole of Vietnam, and Hai Lang district is the most vulnerable within the province. Climate change will bring an increased risk of disaster to Vietnam. Oxfam works in Hai Lang district, helping to train villagers to prepare for floods and storms, and how to adapt to changes.
Nguyen Thi Man (32) with her ID card, which she keeps protected when storms hit My Thuy village, Hai An commune. "In case I might be killed by the storm, I keep my ID card safe so that my body can be returned to my family."
Man's main source of income - an ice-making machine - was destroyed during the last typhoon. "We had prepared by putting sandbags on the roof, and strengthened it with rope, but it was still totally destroyed by the strong winds." 2009.
