VIETNAM. Quang Tri province. Hai Lang district. The central coastal province of Quang Tri is one of the most vulnerable to flooding in the whole of Vietnam, and Hai Lang district is the most vulnerable within the province. Climate change will bring an increased risk of disaster to Vietnam. Oxfam works in Hai Lang district, helping to train villagers to prepare for floods and storms, and how to adapt to changes.
Hoi Dien village, Hai Hoa commune. The family of Nguyen Van Vy (53) stand on the stairs of the mezzanine in their home, where they live during the floods. This solid structure is in stark contrast to the flimsy bamboo platforms that poorer families use. The family are his wife Ngo Thi Hiep, 50 his sons Nguyen Due Tri, 26 Nguyen Ngoc Chieu, 23 and Nguyen Van Thoai, 15 and daughters Nguyen Thi Huyen, 20 and Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang, 12. 2009.
