VIETNAM. Quang Tri province. Hai Lang district. The central coastal province of Quang Tri is one of the most vulnerable to flooding in the whole of Vietnam, and Hai Lang district is the most vulnerable within the province. Climate change will bring an increased risk of disaster to Vietnam. Oxfam works in Hai Lang district, helping to train villagers to prepare for floods and storms, and how to adapt to changes.
Four generations of women stand in their house, (Left to right: Phan Thi Mai, 89, Nguyen Thi Liew, 60, Ng Thi Lien, 38, Le Thi Thu Ugen, 14) , the biggest and sturdiest in their flood-prone village, Phu Kinh village, Hai Hoa commune. When the floods come, they move all their possessions up to their second floor. During the last flood it took 12 hours to move all their belongings, and they didn't have time to save their rice. 2009.
