AFGHANISTAN. 2015. Niamatullah Rasikh and his family.
Niamatullah Rasikh was working with a de-mining NGO when he was kidnapped and held in captivity for 40 days. He managed to escape from his captors, but the experience had a traumatic impact on his life. He left the country without telling his wife and didn’t contact her until he arrived in Iran, to tell her he planned to travel to Europe. On his way to Turkey, he kept in contact with his wife, but then one day he called her and explained that he was robbed by thieves in Turkey. After that, he never called again and the family does not know where he is now. His wife, along with her three children, are living in a rented house in a very poor area of Kabul, relying on relatives and neighbors to support them.
