While the men chop meat and get the fire ready, women chop carrots that will be mixed with nopales (an edible cactus) and cooked over a fire in enormous pots to be served the next day to thousands of guests at the home of the new mayordomo de Chalma, Ernesto Alvarado, in barrio de Santa Cruz after Sunday mass. The mayordomo will oversee the imagenes, and all of the celebratory communal meals connected with it, during the next year.
