GEORGIA. Anaklia. 2013.
A Chinese-style beach pavilion near the Anaklia port. Anaklia was supposed to be a Chinese-inspired “instant city” – a large cluster of skyscrapers that would be home to half a million residents. Initially expected to go to Chinese investors the construction of Anaklia Black Sea Deep Water Port was eventually handled to American companies back in 2016.
In 2013, president Mikheil Saakashvili was ousted and all his personal projects of accelerated change in Georgia were put on hold. Facade-like modernization covered the greatest number of political prisoners in entire post-soviet region. The series of images traces the abandoned dream of a man with almost unlimited power in his country.
