TURKEY. Diyarbakir. November 2015. Turkish police fire tear gas on protesting Kurds, after the election appeared to deliver a clear victory to the party of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) led by President Recep Erdogan.
A "shock" victory, after losing it five months earlier in the June 2015 general election. The early elections had been called by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Aug. 24, 2015, after the June election resulted in a hung parliament and coalition negotiations had failed. The election made Turkey's 25th parliament, elected in June, the shortest in the history of the Grand National Assembly, lasting only five months.
