ITALY. Codogno. May 1, 2020. People walking on the street. On May 1st merchants of Codogno took to the square with signs saying 'The silence of the innocent'. The mayor Francesco Passerini said : “This is an understandable protest, the absence of protections worries them and I understand them, given that - says the first citizen - their activities are blocked for 70 days and there is a forecast that they will reopen on June 1st”. On 21 February, the Lombardy province of Lodi was at the centre of Italy’s coronavirus outbreak when the first locally transmitted case was confirmed in the town of Codogno. The town was immediately put under lockdown, with 10 others across the province, which lies south of Milan, following suit the next day.
