IRAQ. Baghdad. February 3, 2016. 14-year-old Tiba (center) shares a sleeping area with her two siblings, 2-year-old Ikhlas (left) and 13-year-old Seif, inside a one-room temporary shelter in the predominantly Sunni Adamiyah district of Baghdad.
Tiba and her siblings all suffer Thalasemia, an ereditary blood disease, and spend most of their day laying in a mattress. Their family is from Fallujah and they fled their home due to the conflict with the Islamic Sate, which still controls Falluja.
Tiba's family cannot afford treatment for the disease, Thalasemia, at the hospital. Many families have lost their source of income annually, which puts an additional strain on them as they are already trying to survive displacement. The International Committee of the Red Cross tries to help families cope with the distribution of food parcels. In many cases it also distributes personal hygiene kits, stoves, blankets and heaters. However, it is difficult for families to be resilient under such circumstances.
