IRAQ. Amariyat al-Fallujah, Anbar Province. February 1, 2016. The Markazi, a camp for internally displaced Sunni families on the outskirts of Amariyat al-Fallujah, located some three kilometers from the Bzeibiz bridge over the Euphrates river, the main access point from Anbar to Baghdad province.
The majority of the camp's residents have fled fighting between the Islamic State and Iraqi security forces in Ramadi since April 2015, and have been living in schools, unfinished buildings or staying with relatives around Amariyat al-Fallujah, which serves as a safe haven for uprooted Iraqis in the restive Anbar province.
To help families cope, the International Committee of the Red Cross distributed food parcels, hygiene items, cooking tools, stoves and heaters. However, increasing needs are greater than many aid organizations' capacity.
According to UNHCR, more than 250,000 civilians are estimated to have fled Ramadi since April, with the majority staying inside Anbar province itself living with host families, in informal settlements, unfinished buildings, schools or renting apartments.
