IRAQ. Amariyat al-Fallujah, Anbar Province. February 1, 2016. Abda Dayeh Hamadi, 60, sits outside her tent at camp Markazi, a camp in Ambar Province for internally displaced Sunni families from Falluja and Ramadi. Abda, a diabetic, suffers from gangrene in her left foot. She was displaced from Ramadi in the past months, and she has no access to health care anymore. She is unable to keep a healthy diabetic diet and therefore this has contributed to her worsening health situation. Unable to have access to antibiotics, she dresses the affected area of her foot with a warm mixture of corn, sugar, and flour. This condition, which might otherwise be managed, becomes life-threatening, and the need for healthcare among internally displaced people is only increasing.

The majority of the camp's residents have fled fighting between the Islamic State and Iraqi security forces in Ramadi since April 2015, and have been living in schools, unfinished buildings or staying with relatives around Amariyat al-Fallujah, which serves as a safe haven for uprooted Iraqis in the restive Anbar province.

The families, which often have no source of income, are in urgent need of healthcare, food and other aid. The International Committee of the Red Cross helps families cope with the distribution of food parcels, blankets, and other hygiene kits. However, their ability to cope is diminishing as needs increase.
