CHINA. Guangzhou, Guangdong. 1996. For some Chinese, the ideal life is to be born in Suzhou, live in Hangzhou, eat in Guangzhou and die in Liuzhou. Suzhou is known for its beautiful women, Hangzhou for its beautiful scenery, Guangzhou for its wonderful cuisine, and Liuzhou for its high-quality willow coffins. Apart from Liuzhou's coffins, the features of the other cities are as reputed. In particular, very few will argue about the fine cuisine in Guangzhou (but not comparing it to that of Hong Kong). Very representative here is Guangzhou Restaurant. Among the wide variety of dishes on its menu, barbecued crispy suckling pig is one of the most memorable.
