MOLDOVA. Transdniester. 2004. Transdniesters economic system is a curious blend of piratic business practices and stagnant Soviet-style communism. The one private company that is flourishing is the Sheriff company, which runs huge swaths of Transdniester's economy - including gas stations, TV companies, mobile phone operators, supermarkets, the main import-export businesses and other things. Some tounge-in-cheek locals call Transdniester Sheriff-land. Here the Sheriff football stadium is shown, a bizarre Ceausescu-style grand project out of proportion to Tiraspols general grayness.
