USA. New York City. 2002. Seen from the World Financial Center, "Tribute of Light" two twin beams of light being shot into the air near ground zero, as a memorial for those lost in the attack on the WTC.
Beginning on March 11, which marks the 6 month anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center, and ending on April 13, New York hosted a temporary memorial at the site of the tradgedy. "Tribute of Light," which consists of two beams of light shooting into the sky from just west of ground zero, was visible from all over Manhattan, New Jersey and the surrounding boroughs. The light beams, made up of 88 powerful searchlights arranged in 2 side-by-side 50-foor squares, was visible from nightfall until 11 pm, but could be shut down due to certain weather conditions and concerns about migratory bird patterns. "Tribute of Light" was a collaboration of six architects and artists, and is meant to be a sign of life.
