ICELAND. Vatnesnes. 2007. In September, farmers and villagers all over Iceland gather for sheep and horse roundups (RŽttir). Here, sheep farmers ride up herding sheep down from the mountain for the HamarsrŽtt, a sheep roundup on the Vatnesnes peninsula in northern iceland. The sheep are herded into a circular pen system, where the local sheepowners and various townspeople help eachother separate the sheep among the owners.


The roundups are a significant event in the yearly calendars of all of rural Iceland, and are often accompanied by festivities.
