VIETNAM. Can Tho. 1997. Can Tho is the largest city in the Mekong Delta. About thirty kilometers sound of Can Tho is Phung Hiep, a town with a floating marketplace. The canal is wide in this area, and before dawn is a large number of boats converge, carrying people to buy and sell all sorts of products, mainly rice, fish, fruits and vegetables. The vendors are mostly women. A Vietnamese friend told me that because an increasing number of people were being injured in boat collisions, traffic regulations have been introduced.
