NEPAL. Kathmandu. 1998. Many important historic buildings line the area around Durbar Square in downtown Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. In the southwestern section of the square, people come to buy and sell products such as grains, vegetables, spices, and flowers. Here, a young boy and his friend-or maybe they are brother and sister-wait patiently for customers to buy their vegetables. Next to them is a chai (tea) shop, with the shopkeeper preparing for morning customers by boiling tea and milk on a small gas burner. All in all, a typical Kathmandu morning scene.
