In the late 1960's thousands of immigrants arrrived in Israel as a result of changes in Soviet society and the awakening of Zionism among Jews in the Soviet Union. This wave of immigration preceded the large wave of immigration from the Russian Commonwealth of Nations since tyhe late 1980's.
