GUATEMALA. El Quiche. Pachoj. 1988. Remains of disappeared persons are exhumed by GAM (Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo or Mutual Support Group). Local policemen stand to the right. Forty thousand persons were "disappeared" during Guatelmala's Dirty War. Exhumations began in the 1980s and have continued into the year 2001. This was one of Guatemala's first exhumations of a clandestine cemetery.
