AFGHANISTAN. Kabul. 1992. Aged of 38, Ahmed MASSOUD (right), the "Lion of Panjshir", an ethnic Tajik who became famous through the fight against soviet army in the 1980's, took the control of Kabul in April 1992. He occupied the residence of the former President Najibullah captured to Hekmatyar soldiers. MASSOUD became minister of defence of the new Republic of Afghanistan directed by President Sebghatullah MOJADIDI. Here, with one of his commander (JI) in the garden of the palace of the former president.
