On his tour of several African nations, Pope John Paul II visited Khartoum on 10.2.93, on his visit he saw the portrait of sister Josephine BAKHITA who he had beatified in Rome on 17.5.92 as a Saint. She was sold as a slave to the Italian Consul in the beginning of the Century, but converted from Islam to Catholicism, and later became the Mother Superior of the Italian Convent in Khartoum. 1993.
