This is the 13th pillar in the Alma Tunnel beneath the Place de Alma along the banks of the Seine in Paris, where the late night of the 31st Aust 1997 the Mercedes S-280 carrying Princess Diana and her escort Dodi Fayed having been chased by motorbyke photographers from the Ritz Hotel skidded and collided into a pillar.The accident caused the instant death of the driver Henri Paul, Mr Fayed, and severely injuring the bodyguard Trevor Rees Jones, and Princess Diana later died in hospital.
