MYANMAR (Burma). Inle Shan. 1986. The members of the Intha Tribe in Shan State live on Inle Lake. Because they live on the water and thus don't get much exercise, the men of the tribe are said to have highly developed foot muscles for manipulating their boat paddles. The Intha even grow vegetables in fields floating on the lake. The Phaung Daw U Pagoda on the lake is also famous. All boys in Myanmar (Burma) must undergo a period of Buddhist training, even if only for a short time. Although young, the boys are forbidden to eat anything between noon of one day and the next morning.
