NEPAL. Lukla. 1998. Lukla, a village located about 150 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu, Nepal's capital, I encircled by several six-thousand-meter mountains. After a runway was recently complete that let small airplanes fly in and out of here, Lukla became a favorite base for trekkers from around the world who view the Himalayas, especially Mt. Everest. During the peak season in November and December, it is difficult to obtain air tickets. Even during that time, however, the sherpas continue to take their yak out and work their farmland.
