INDIA. “Women Changing India”. Gujarat state. Gulf of Kutch. Near the port of Mundra, on Bhadrashwar Coastline. Fishing community of Randh Bandar Village. April 2010. Besides providing them access to basic amenities, education and health, KMVS has been working to organize the fishing communities into 'producer companies' - a vital step towards greater social and economic independence. KMVS - Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan, is a Kutch – Gujarat based women’s organization which was initiated and promoted in 1989 which emphasis has been empowerment of women. It enables women to access information, training, and skills. As well as handicraft production, KMVS organizes programs in natural resource management, education for women and girls, health education, family planning, and legal support. It runs a radio broadcast in tribal dialect, a newsletter, a self-managed screen-printing-unit, and a savings and credit program.
