INDIA. “Women Changing India”. State of Gujarat. Ahmedabad. April 2010. In the middle, Sharifaben Mohammad Hussain Desai, Bank Saathi (companion), collecting money from Rashidabibi Gulamali Atar Mansuri. In this family, five of the women have taken out loans with Sewa. The family isl in the wholesale textile business and have managed to expand thanks to Sewa. SEWA (Self Employement Women's Association), founded as a trade union by Ela Bhatt, in 1972. SEWA follows the Gandhian philosophy of non-violence and self reliance. It builds up solidarity amongst women workers and is both an institution and a movement of economic change.
