The family isl in the wholesale textile business and have managed to expand thanks to Sewa. SEWA (Self Employement Women's Association), founded as a trade union by Ela Bhatt, in 1972. SEWA follows the Gandhian philosophy of non-violence and self reliance. It builds up solidarity amongst women workers and is both an institution and a movement of economic change.
