Women working at the reconstruction of a pond to make it possible to store rain water for periods when there is scarcity of water. The women have been employed under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme which provides for 100 days of employement to people in rural areas. The scheme is financed by the central government in partnership with the state government. The people in Kerala get RS 125 per day as wages. This daily wage varies from state to state. Kerala has the highest per wage in India. The beneficiary's of this scheme are decided by the Panchayat and the projects are first identified by the Panchayat.
