JAPAN. Ishinomaki. January 17th, 2012.
Ten months after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, splintered wood, concrete blocks, steel reinforcing bars and all kinds of other waste has been removed from commercial and residential areas, and the physical process of disposing and recycling is under way.
According to the Environment Ministry, roughly 24 million tons of disaster waste was generated from the three hardest-hit prefectures (Iwate, Fukushima and Miyagi).
