On the 10th of November 2020, Ace Magashule, the Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC) was charged with corruption, fraud and money laundering in the awarding of an audit contract. On the 5th of May 2021, the party leading South Africa announced his suspension until the end of the trial.
The case goes back to the end of 2014 when two entrepreneurs signed a 255 millions rands contract to assess the presence of asbestos in the townships inherited from the apartheid in the Free State. Several months later, they produced a report outsourced for 21 millions rands.
