At the end of WWII, Finland was one of the few countries that was not annexed by the USSR, retaining its independence while ceding some land to Moscow. Finland shares a 1,343km border with Russia, which has always been clearly defined and protected, and since its independence, the two countries have maintained a respectful relationship, with celebrations and communist memorials in several Finnish cities a testament to this.
