While working on a project about school violence in 1992, Eli Reed was invited to photograph Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn. During his visit, two students were shot and killed. Police officers were already on the premises at the time preparing for a visit by Mayor David Dinkins. The shooter, also a student, was captured.
