Kumbh Mela Festival

This January millions of Hindus will attend the Kumbh Mela festival in Prayag, India. The festival, the most important Hindu religious gathering, takes place 4 times in a 12 year period and cycles between 4 locations: Prayag (Allahabad), Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. In 2001 the Maha Kumbh Mela (Great Kumbh Mela), which happens every 12 years at Prayag, became the largest ever gathering of people anywhere in the world, with an estimated 70 million people attending over the 45 day festival period.
