The course of Ian Berry's career is inseperable from that of photojournalism in the UK. Joining Magnum in 1962 he became the first contract photographer for The Observer magazine in 1964 and was recipient of the first Arts Council Award in 1978, which enabled him to complete his acclaimed work on "The English".
