The Time of Trees stresses the importance of trees to society. Trees enrich us by more than their beauty: they are a resource for food, shelter, medicine, luxuries; equally, they can be sacred or symbolic. Our link to trees is as strong now as it was in the past. We relate to nature in a variety of new contexts but our culture is still defined through our response to non-human nature. This margin where society and nature interact is the subject of the exhibition.
