Archive - Walter Cronkite, 1916-2009 

Walter Cronkite, an American broadcast journalist, best known as anchorman for the CBS Evening News for 19 years, died on July 17, 2009, at the age of 92 from cerebrovascular disease. In 1950, Cronkite joined CBS News in its television division, recruited by Edward R. Murrow, who had previously tried to hire Cronkite from UP during the war. Cronkite succeeded Douglas Edwards as anchorman of the CBS Evening News in 1962, where he soon became an American icon. One of Cronkite's trademarks was ending the CBS Evening News with the phrase "...And that's the way it is."For many years, until a decade...
