Distro - Augusto Pinochet 1915-2006

Magnum Photographers

One week after suffering a heart attack former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet died at the age of 91. During his regime, from 1973-1990, it is believed he tortured and killed thousands of Chileans. While his opponents have thoroughly attested to his cold-blooded methods, his supporters claim that he improved the economy and Chilean society as a whole. Even in death, Chile is at odds over how to react to the death of this highly controversial figure.
