The british novelist Dame Beryl Bainbridge has died at the age of 75 after a short illness. Starting out as an actress, she later wrote over 20 novels, including An Awfully Big Adventure and Every Man for Himself, plus screenplays and TV series. She was given a damehood in 2000.
