Gilles Peress 

The August 14, 2003 blackout that hit eight states in the U.S and parts of Ontario, Canada was the largest power failure in North American history. In New York City, the blackout hit shortly after 4 p.m., just as hundreds of thousands of workers and residents were about to make their way home.
