Sir Charlie Spencer Chaplin, (1889-1977), better known as Charlie Chaplin was an English comedy actor, becoming one of the most famous performers of the modern era, especially known for his 'little Tramp' character.
He was the first screen artist to write, direct and perform in his own films, where he began acting in silent movies for Mack Sennett. Later he became one of the founding members of United Artist Studios. His best know films include the Gold Rush (1925), City Lights (1931), and Modern Times (1936).
