In 2000, Soth was one of three photographers commissioned by Carleton College to photographically interpret the campus as place. For the project, Soth photographed college spaces from the inside looking out, using the window as a unifying theme.

Soth writes in the exhibition catalogue, "If I were a student at Carleton, I'd spend a lot of time staring out the window. Whether I was solving a math problem or dreaming about my future, that is where my eyes would go."
