Ronald Reagan took the Oath of Office in a private service to begin his second term as the 40th President of the United States, and then decided to cancel the inaugural parade due to bitter cold. Alternative inaugural events were held at the Capitol Center in Landover, Maryland. Nine inaugural balls were held throughout the capital on the evening of Monday, January 21st.
