Ricardo Lagos, first elected socialist President in Chile since Salvador Allende was ousted by dictator Augusto Pinochet in violent 1973 coup. Ricardo Lagos will take over from current President, Christian Democrat, Eduardo Frei at the end of his term, March 11th 2000.
