In December 1999 Panamanians will have regained their Canal. US forces have already started their
pullout. The Jungle Operations Training Battalion will leave Fort Sherman in June 1999.

A woman, Mireya MOSCOSO, the widow of former President Arias, won the elections
against candidates as Martin TORRIJOS, son of the legendary President who negociated the regain of the
canal in the 70ies in the Carter-Torrijos agreement.

She was elected President of Panama on May 5th.
