David Ogilvy, founder of the Madison Avenue advertising agency Ogilvy and Mather, died August 2, 1999 near Bonnes, France at the age of 88. Ogilvy, who started his career as a door to door salesman founded Ogilvy and Mather in 1948. His firm quickly became one of the world's most prominent ad agencies with corporate clients such as Rolls Royce and Pepperidge Farm.
