The Senior Olympics movement was founded in 1968. It began as a way to show adults of all ages the importance of exercise for mental and physical health throughout ones life. In 1987 the first National Senior Olympic Games were held in St Louis, Missouri. All participants must be over 60 years of age. The participants are then broken down into age groups (every five years) from 60 to the over 90's. The next National Senior Olympics will be held on July 14-28, 2001 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
