The "Memorial for the killed Jews of Europe" has been opened by German politicians and Jewish leaders to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.
The memorial contains 2,700 stone slabs and is situated near to the Brandenburg Gate. The architechture of the memorial has been controversial with backers saying that the stones will be central to Berlin's identity, whilst critics feel that it is too abstract.
Others have criticised Berlin, capital of the Third Reich, for taking so long to erect a fitting memorial to its victims.
