After the fall of the Soviet Union a revival of the Stalin cult took place in Georgia, his native land .
When Georgia became independent several Stalin parties appeared even though they never collected a high percentages in the elections. Combined with an economic crisis, civil war and chaos, the wish for a strong leader reappeared.
"In my opinion the Georgian cult of Stalin is foremost a expression of Nationalist pride, even though Georgians have suffered repressions by the Stalinist regime as much as other Soviet countries.
