Marilyn Silverstone became a Buddhist nun in 1977, using India as a base from 1959 to 1973, she travelled to Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Ladakh and other mid and far Eastern countries. At that time she belonged to a very small number of individuals from the Western world who managed to gain entry into Sikkim, Bhutan, and Ladakh, in order to capture their vanishing cultures.
