With limousines, fancy hotels and historical costumes, Chinese couples are making the change from unassuming Maoist-style weddings to elaborate big-budget celebrations. The private companies that appeared as a result of China's new market economy and the personal wealth they created have eschewed old-style weddings. These "Mao's Red Book" gatherings of family and close friends eating modest wonton dinners have given way to sumptuous big-budget feasts for hundreds of the newlywed's nearest and dearest where well-to-do couples now sink a month's salary into kitschy photo albums alone.
