Haiti is going through an explosive political crisis : since last Sunday February 8th 2004, the uprising that started in Gonaïves is spreading to a number of main towns in the West and the North of the country. About 42 people have died amidst the clashes between president Jean-Bertrand Aristide army and the opponents.
Groups opposing the government have been asking for Aristide's resignation since his disputed re-election in 2000.
According to his opponents, the president -a former priest- has betrayed the ideals that brought him to power.
